Chess Puzzle of the Week (4)

Last week’s puzzle was a proof game taken from Winning Chess Puzzles for Kids Volume 2 by Jeff Coakley. Like many chess teachers, I use Coakley’s books a lot. They’re among the best sources for puzzles out there. Don’t be misled by the titles of his books: they’re certainly not just for kids!

Congratulations to Jim Stevenson (Hammersmith, also an RJCC coach) and IM Chris W Baker (not to be confused with RTCC’s Chris B Baker: at one point I knew four chess players all named Chris Baker) for getting the correct solution: 1. d4 e6 2. Bh6 Qg5 3. Qc1 Qxc1 4. Bxc1 d5.

Here’s this week’s puzzle. All you have to do is find the best continuation for Black – and I’ll need more than one move.
