Chess Puzzle of the Week (17)

This week’s puzzle was submitted by RTCC member (and former RJCC member) Eamon Rashid-Farokhi.

Eamon was black in this position from an online game. What did he play next?

Last week I offered you this position, the conclusion of an endgame study composed by Yochanan Afek.

White wants to promote the b-pawn so plays 1. Bg7. Black has to capture: 1… Rxg7, and now 2. Nd4+. If the king now moves to c7, d7 or e7, the pawn is unpinned, while Kd6 and Kc5 both allow a winning knight fork.
