Chess Puzzle of the Week (160)

There was sad news for British chess fans last week with the death of ten times British Champion Jonathan Penrose, one of England’s finest ever players, at the age of 88.

I’ll be posting puzzles from his games over the next few weeks.

This position is from the game Penrose – Soderborg (World Students’ Team Championship Budapest 1959).

How did White continue here? Like last week’s puzzle, it’s all about how far ahead you can calculate: a vital chess skill.
