Chess Olympiad

The first round of the 2018 Chess Olympiad takes place in Batumi, Georgia today. Teams from over 180 countries are taking part, along with teams of blind, deaf and physically handicapped players.

You can watch live action from the Open section here and the Women’s section here.

Online results are here.

We can’t find any immediate RTCC connection, but our friends and neighbours from Kingston Chess Club provide two captains.

GM John Nunn, who played for Kingston for the first time for several decades in the final of the Alexander Cup (Surrey KO) last season, is non-playing captain of the England open team. Former Kingston player Jinwoo Song takes on the same role for the South Korean open team.

Former Richmond Junior Club star Luke McShane is playing on Board 2 for the England Open team.

Get your St George’s flag out and cheer on our boys and girls!
