Stefano Bruzzi RIP

Many of you will have known Stefano (Stef) Bruzzi of Surbiton Chess Club, who sadly died on 30 January at the age of 86.

Stefano was born in Italy on 9 February 1935, and was one of the strongest players of his generation in his native country, playing for the national team in the Clare Benedict Cup in 1960. He subsequently moved to England where he continued his chess career, joining Surbiton Chess Club for whom he played for many years until very recently.

He was a very popular figure on the chess circuit and within the Thames Valley and Surrey Leagues. We send our condolences to his colleagues at Surbiton Chess Club and to his many chess playing friends. He will be greatly missed.

Here are a couple of games against strong English opposition.

Bruzzi – Adams Islington 1968

Bruzzi – Povah Hammersmith 1971
