Rapid League

We run an internal ECF rated RTCC Rapid League pyramid designed to provide competitive rapid play chess to club members.

If long, classical games or the requirement to record your moves are not your cup-of-tea, these leagues provide an alternative way to experience competitive chess.

If you’d like to join, please contact Mike and he’ll add you to the Waiting group.

Overview

Rapid League games are played at Cambridge Park Bowls Club on Thursday evenings.

The current season has 2 round-robin divisions running up to 31 August 2026. Participants arrange their own matches, usually via the group WhatsApp chat.

An unstructured Waiting group will be setup for all new players. This will run in the same way to the club’s Ladder competition (just with Rapid time controls instead of Standard).

In the event of a withdrawl from the pyramid, the player at the top of the Waiting group will be offered a chance to enter the pyramid. If this happens mid-season, they will assume the record of the withdrawn player for the remainder of the season.

Entering the pyramid represents a year-long commitment to playing your league fixtures so please keep this in mind when offered a place. If you can’t commit to a full season but still want to play rated rapid games, you can remain in the Waiting group.

At the end of each season, the divisions will be restructured accordingly depending upon the number of fixtures fulfilled and players in the Wating group.

Since all the games will be submitted to the ECF rating system, a Bronze or higher ECF membership will be required to participate in the RTCC Rapid League.

Details of ECF Memberships are available here: https://www.englishchess.org.uk/ecf-membership-rates-and-joining-details.
