We run an internal ECF rated rapid league pyramid designed to provide competitive rapid play chess to club members.
Overview
Rapid League games are played at Cambridge Park Bowls Club on Thursday evenings. Participants arrange their own matches, usually via the group WhatsApp chat but this can also now be done using the Dashboard
The format is a round-robin pyramid of divisions with promotion / relegation at the end of each season (1st October – 31st May). A waiting group will be setup to accommodate any late joiners. In the event of a withdrawal from the pyramid, the place of the withdrawn player will be offered to the first person in the waiting group for the remainder of the season.
Match rules
Each match consists of 2 rapid games.
Game 1: coin toss to determine colours.
Game 2: reversed colours from Game 1.
Time Control: 15 minutes + 10 second increments per player.
Points: Each game earns 4 points for a win and 2 for a draw and 1 for a loss.
Bonus Points: 2 points are awarded at the half-way point of the season (31st Jan) to anyone who has completed at least half of their fixtures by then.

If points are level, the Sonneborn-Berger tie-break method is used to determine a winner followed by the head-to-head score then number of game wins. If still level, the player with the highest tournament performance rating followed by the highest ECF rapid rating will determine the victor.
