We work closely with Richmond Junior Chess Club, a professionally run club for ambitious young players. They offer group tuition, rated games and external competitions. RJCC was founded in 1975, originally as an offshoot of RTCC, and is regarded as one of the strongest and best children’s chess clubs in the country.
Richmond Junior Chess Club meets at Orleans Park School, Richmond Road, Twickenham on Saturday afternoons from 2:00 to 5:00. Visit their website here.
We are also creating a smaller Junior section at the RTCC, designed for (mostly) older children who are interested in graduating into chess at an Adult level, but for fun, not necessarily concentrating on competitions and tuition. This will start in September 2026, with trial sessions during the 2026 summer holidays. If you are interested for yourself or your child, please contact Richard James, renown Chess author and teacher and also our Junior Chess Manager.
Our only criterion for membership will be that children can demonstrate to us that they have a genuine passion for chess.
Richard provides a service independent of RTCC, including offering free consultations and providing advice on the best approach for parents and schools to take regarding children’s chess. To book a consultation, to discuss private individual or small group tuition, or for further information about any aspect of junior chess please contact him. You’re also welcome to visit Richard’s website here.
