We have a new junior section at Richmond & Twickenham Chess Club, designed for (mostly) older children who are interested in graduating into chess at an adult level, but for fun, not necessarily concentrating on competitions and tuition. This runs before our main club, from 5:15 to 7:15 every Thursday. Find out more our junior section and watch a short video explaining what we do here.
Our only criteria for membership are that children can demonstrate to us that they have a genuine passion for chess and can behave within the rules.
If you’re planning to attend, register your children’s names so that we know you’re coming. If, after one or two trial sessions, they decide they’d like to join, you’ll need to pay a junior subscription (£40 for 2026-27)) for each child.
Please note that there is a downloadable Junior Membership form required for all juniors. A physical signed copy of this will need to be signed by parents or guardians and handed in at the first session that your child attends. Parents and guardians should also become familiar with our general Club’s Rules and Policies.

We also work closely with Richmond Junior Chess Club, a professionally run club for ambitious young players. They offer group tuition, rated games and external competitions. RJCC was founded in 1975, originally as an offshoot of RTCC, and is regarded as one of the strongest and best children’s chess clubs in the country.
