RTCC Junior Section

We’re thrilled to announce that we’re running a new junior section of RTCC before the main club on Thursday evenings.

We believe there’s a market for a social, community based, family oriented chess club for young people in this area. A club which is stress free, which takes a holistic, child-centred approach to chess, but offers, for those who want it, a combination of high challenge and low stakes.

Nick von Schlippe explains what the club is all about here.

The club will be for older children (initially aged 10-16), but younger children who are already proficient players will also be accepted as long as they are accompanied by parents or carers at all times.

In the first instance we’ll be providing social chess rather than rated games, although we might later run rated competitions should there be a demand.

We offer informal mentoring rather than formal classes, and expect children to know and love the game, and to be able to play proficiently before joining.

Children will have the opportunity to graduate to our main club sessions whenever they feel confident to do so.

We’re now open every Thursday from 5:15 to 7:15. Our venue, Cambridge Park Bowls Club, is conveniently situated right in the centre of the Borough, very close to transport links.

If you’d like to take a deeper dive into the sort of club we have in mind, visit our Chess Minds website for further information.

If you have any further questions, or would like a free assessment session for your children, email Richard James.
