You can visit Richmond & Twickenham Chess Club for free by registering on our site. This will add your name to our check-in system and it will tell us to expect you!

Joining our Chess Club is also very straightforward. Once you are registered, if you’d like to join us (we allow two trial sessions) just choose the correct membership subscription for your circumstances: the details are explained in the descriptions. Our membership year runs from September 1st of each year to August 31st of the following year. Payment is by bank transfer (we do not accept card payments): all details are given during the secure purchase process.

Membership prices for September 1st 2026 to August 31st 2027 range from £40 for our social-only players and juniors through to £70 for our full adult members. Go to Subscriptions for full details.

If you’re enquiring on behalf of a junior, or interested in chess for children, please visit our Junior Chess page here. Parents of junior members are required to complete a membership form for each child.

A quick note about the English Chess Federation (ECF). Competitive chess play in England requires some kind of ECF membership (except for our own internal competitions). There are two main levels:

ECF Bronze membership entitles you to play in league matches such as those in the London, Surrey and Thames Valley Leagues.

ECF Gold Membership is required if you want to play in congresses as an individual.
